Steve Curtis, tuba

George Chase Quintet

Steve Curtis graduated from the University of Houston in 2002, with a
Bachelor of Music, and earned a Masters in Educational Leadership in
2004. In 2005, he won the principal tuba position in the Orquesta
Sinfonica UANL in Monterrey, Mexico, where spent a year performing
with the orchestra. Steve is currently the principal tuba of the
Shreveport Symphony Orchestra, and has also performed with the Houston
Grand Opera, the Houston Ballet Orchestra, the Woodlands Symphony,
Symphony North of Houston, and the Symphony of Southeast Texas. He
freelances in and around the greater Houston area, performing in
various groups and styles. Steve also maintains a private studio of
over 70 students, whose accomplishments include several placements in
the All-Region, All-Area, and All-State bands, as well as numerous
awards and honors. Steve's primary teachers have been Mark Barton
(Houston Grand Opera and Houston Ballet), William Rose (Houston
Symphony, retired), and Dave Kirk (Houston Symphony).
